Is counseling for me?

Attending counseling is no different than seeing your doctor when you're sick or needing check-ups. We believe it is just as important to attend to your mental health as it is to attend to your physical health. You may have areas in your life that you wish to address and improve. You may be needing extra coping strategies to manage the daily stress of your job, have difficulties in your relationships with others, or feel depressed or anxious. We all are faced with challenging circumstances in life. Overcoming these obstacles with the support of a counseling professional can be a rewarding experience that can bring about lasting, fulfilling change.

What information is needed before the first appointment?

In order to allow the most time to share in session and allow your counselor to best attend to your needs, we ask you complete several forms prior to your first appointment. You can complete the Counseling Service Agreement and Financial Agreement forms and e-mail them back to us. You may also print these forms and bring them to your first appointment. These forms will be reviewed in more detail with your counselor during the initial appointment.  Kindly, arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time in order to complete additional forms and symptoms checklists that will allow your counselor to gain a better understanding of your areas of concern. Please note you will find these forms on a prepared clipboard with your first name only in our waiting area. Have a seat, relax, and complete these forms to the best of your ability. Your counselor will meet you at the beginning of your scheduled hour.

What should I expect at the first appointment?

The first appointment is geared towards completing an assessment to gather the necessary information for your counselor to best understand your concerns. The first appointment is also focused on reviewing policies and protocols to help you understand the expectations of the counseling relationship. In addition, the initial appointment is both for your counselor to confirm his/her area of clinical expertise matches your needs and for you to begin to determine if you feel your counselor is a best match for you. During the intake, both you and your counselor will be working to identify treatment goals you wish to work towards. Most importantly, this session will be the foundation of building a positive therapeutic relationship where you feel heard and understood.

Do you accept insurance?

What payment options are available to me?

What does confidentiality mean? What are the limits in counseling?

Confidentiality is extremely important in counseling and simply means we take care to keep information shared private. There are limits to confidentiality and they are as followed: suspected abuse (sexual, physical, emotional, and/or neglect), serious threat to health/safety of self or others, certain legal situations, supervision or consultation, or other circumstances.
